Caesar Salad with Meyer Lemon Dressing and Rosemary Flatbread Croutons

Meyer Lemon Caesar Salad

If life was still like high school and cuisines could be friends, I would choose Italian to be my bestie.  Italian food incorporates three of my favorite food groups: cheese, pasta, and tomatoes.  Really, what more does a girl need?  I could easily eat Italian food seven nights a week; however, I'm not sure my #1 customer (i.e. Dan) would enjoy the monotony.  As a matter of fact, I might not even enjoy it myself.  Thus, I try to keep things interesting by allowing various cultures to … [Read more...]

Miami Brunch Review: Oliver’s Bistro

Oliver's Bistro

Although I don't have much room for comparison, I feel confident recommending Oliver's Bistro to anyone searching for a charming, comfort-food-competent, and slightly-off-the-beaten-path (a.k.a. not in the thick of Ocean Drive) brunch spot.  The service is unpretentious, the food solidly delicious, and the atmosphere private and date-worthy.  Don't expect extreme innovations, face-lifts, or advancements with regard to your favorite brunch staples; do expect a pretty presentation and an … [Read more...]

OLA Miami? I do.

For those of you who have not heard, Miami ended up being more than sandy beaches, restaurants, and shops.  Saturday night, Dan popped the question on our balcony overlooking the ocean, and I said "yes!"  Our original dinner plans would have left us celebrating the elation of engagement at Mercadito Midtown; however, due to some Yelp-ing on the beach early in the afternoon, we decided to nix our reservation there because of some very poor reviews.  The replacement restaurant we chose caught … [Read more...]

Upcoming Miami Beach Restaurant Reviews…

Tonight is a very lovely night.  Thanks to Dan and the tradition of x-mas presents, I am about to board a jet to sunshine, relaxation, and bliss (you know every other post has to reference the word "bliss").  We will be staying at the Eden Roc Renaissance Hotel and gallivanting our way through a variety of restaurants, sandy beaches, and shops.  My point of this post has much less to do with igniting your envy and much more to do with giving you something to look forward to reading -- at … [Read more...]

Vegan Chorizo Tacos

Vegan Chorizo Tacos

Busy times -- and that's just what this week has been -- call for quick meals.  That being said, I've never been a person who eats just to eat; I eat to nourish, satisfy, and experience flavors regardless of how quickly the minutes in a day tick, or in this case slip, away.  I've found my mind teetering between excitement and worry this week as I simultaneously anticipate a gloriously warm trip to Miami Beach this weekend and fret over my little furry friend's ailments between multiple trips … [Read more...]

Holy Guacamole

Mango Pomegranate Guacamole

Typically, on a cold winter's day, I crave hearty, carb-heavy meals to comfort and warm my body; however, every once in a while there are days when my senses long for the bright, clean flavors of summer meals.  Last night was an evening of the latter.  I arrived home from work with a much-too-heavy bag full of weekend work in hand and my hair dusted in snow.  Being exhausted, Dan and I had decided to forgo an evening out to dinner with friends in search of a homemade dinner for two in pajamas … [Read more...]

White Cheddar and Asiago Mac ‘n Cheese with Chard and Caramelized Shallots

Anyone that knows me well knows that I love cheese.  I most definitely have at least one serving of cheese every day and I shamelessly -- and now publicly -- admit it.  My adoration of cheese is so intense that I actually woke up yesterday morning dreaming about it.  In between report-writing and observations, my cheesy dream (bada bing!) led to a few daydreams at work which ended up inspiring me to create a Blissful Basil mac 'n cheese.  To completely winterize and beautify the classic … [Read more...]

A Cure for Whichever Hangover Ails You: Seasoned Grilled Cheese with Avocado and Tomato

Avocado and Tomato Triple Grilled Cheese

Come New Year's day, there are hangovers of all shapes and sizes going on.  There are holiday hangovers: a mix of nostalgia and relief at the realization that the hustle and bustle of the holidays has passed.  For those of us fortunate enough to have two weeks off of work, there are relaxation hangovers; you can only watch 2 movies a day, sleep until 9, 10, or 11am, and not shower until evening on so many consecutive days before you've had enough relaxation and are ready, perhaps hesitantly, … [Read more...]
